Description:
This
is the initial and pre-requisite art class on which all other art
Classes
build. It will introduce a variety
of art skills in technique and media as well as initiate the construction of a
personal aesthetic. Art history, appreciation and critical processes are taught.
Course Objectives/Major Topics
To
introduce and develop the skills necessary for additional art classes and to
give the student a basic appreciation for the arts in the arts and through the
arts. Students will complete studio
work in both 2-D and 3-D areas as well as art criticism and art history
assignments. All instruction is
based on the Core Content for Assessment in Arts and Humanities.
Grading:
Your
course grade will be calculated as follows:
daily class participation
40%
completed assignments
50%
assorted written assignments
10%
Per
Pulaski County Board Policy
all students WILL complete a qualified (as determined by the instructor) writing
portfolio entry or they fail the class.
Student
Conduct:
The
SWHS Code of Conduct will be followed and enforced.
I
encourage freethinking and viewpoints, which do not necessarily match my own.
However, rudeness or lack of respect for others WILL NOT be tolerated.

without being disagreeable.
Please
note that students are EXPECTED to work to the best of their abilities.
Incomplete assignments, assignments missing or not completed on time, and
absences WILL lower the nine weeks and thus the semester grade
