Description:

This is the initial and pre-requisite art class on which all other art

Classes build.  It will introduce a variety of art skills in technique and media as well as initiate the construction of a personal aesthetic.  Art history, appreciation and critical processes are taught.

Course Objectives/Major Topics

To introduce and develop the skills necessary for additional art classes and to give the student a basic appreciation for the arts in the arts and through the arts.  Students will complete studio work in both 2-D and 3-D areas as well as art criticism and art history assignments.  All instruction is based on the Core Content for Assessment in Arts and Humanities.

Your course grade will be calculated as follows:

                    daily class participation                40%

                    completed assignments                            50%

                    assorted written assignments           10%

Per Pulaski County Board Policy all students WILL complete a qualified (as determined by the instructor) writing portfolio entry or they fail the class.

  Student Conduct:

The SWHS Code of Conduct will be followed and enforced.

I encourage freethinking and viewpoints, which do not necessarily match my own.  However, rudeness or lack of respect for others WILL NOT be tolerated.  Learn an important rule:  Disagree without being disagreeable.

Please note that students are EXPECTED to work to the best of their abilities. Incomplete assignments, assignments missing or not completed on time, and absences WILL lower the nine weeks and thus the semester grade
